About the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency
A Modern Agency for a National Challenge
The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) is the Republic of Liberia's principal national authority for the enforcement of laws on narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and precursor chemicals. The Agency operates under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2023, which consolidated and modernized Liberia's counter-narcotics legal framework.
Headquartered on 21st Street in Sinkor, Monrovia, LDEA maintains operational capacity across all fifteen counties of Liberia. The Agency is organized into specialized divisions covering Intelligence, Investigation, Operations, Training, Administration, and Communications.
Mission
To safeguard the people of Liberia from the social, economic and public-health harms of illicit drugs through evidence-based enforcement, principled prosecution, and prevention rooted in community partnership.
Legal Framework
The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2023 establishes LDEA's authority to investigate, arrest, seize, and refer cases for prosecution. The Act aligns Liberia with international conventions on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and creates clear evidentiary and chain-of-custody standards.
Authority
LDEA officers exercise full law-enforcement powers in matters covered by the Act and operate in close coordination with the Ministry of Justice, the Liberia National Police, the Liberia Immigration Service, and the National Security Agency. International partnerships extend to INTERPOL, ECOWAS, and UNODC.
