U.S. Government and UNODC Donate Motorcycles and Communication Equipment to LDEA

Monrovia, Liberia — May 22, 2026: The United States Government, through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has donated 15 motorcycles and 23 SIM cards with one-year internet subscriptions to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).

The equipment is intended to strengthen the Agency’s mobility, communication capabilities, and rapid response in the fight against illicit drug trafficking across Liberia, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.

Speaking during the turnover ceremony, UNODC Country Representative Jesús Aguilar described the donation as a strong demonstration of international cooperation and a significant boost to Liberia’s security sector. He emphasized that the support will improve mobility, communication, and access to remote communities as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to confront transnational drug trafficking networks.

Aguilar commended the LDEA for its growing operational progress and reaffirmed UNODC’s continued partnership and commitment to strengthening the Agency’s capacity.

United States Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Joseph E. Zadrozny also commended the leadership of LDEA Officer-in-Charge DCP Fitzgerald Biago, emphasizing that the fight against illicit drugs is a shared responsibility that requires strong partnerships and trusted leadership.

He noted that every successful drug seizure and prosecution contributes to the safety and security of Liberia, the wider region, and the United States, while reaffirming the United States’ continued support for Liberia’s security and justice sector reforms.

Justice Minister Tweh expressed appreciation to the U.S. Government, INL, and UNODC for their continued support to Liberia’s security sector. He described illicit drugs as a serious threat to the country’s future and its young population and reaffirmed the Government of Liberia’s confidence in the current LDEA leadership.

Receiving the donation, LDEA Officer-in-Charge DCP Fitzgerald Biago expressed appreciation for the timely support, describing the equipment as a major operational boost for officers working under difficult conditions, particularly in the leeward counties.

DCP Biago assured partners that the equipment will be used responsibly to strengthen drug enforcement operations, improve communication, and protect communities across Liberia.

“The LDEA remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and stronger collaboration in the collective fight against illicit drugs and transnational crime.”

The ceremony highlighted the growing partnership between Liberia, the United States Government, and UNODC, as well as their shared commitment to strengthening regional security and combating drug trafficking.
