LDEA Intercepts Major Drug Shipment and Arrests Sierra Leonean Suspect in Grand Gedeh

Monrovia, Liberia — May 19, 2026: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), through its Grand Gedeh County Detachment, has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing nationwide crackdown against illegal drugs with the arrest of a suspected trafficker in Gbowo Town, Gate #2, Grand Gedeh County.

During the operation, LDEA officers arrested Happiness Kan, 25, a Sierra Leonean national, at approximately 4:00 AM on May 17, 2026. Officers seized the following substances from the suspect:

Marijuana: 10 plates, valued at approximately US$650, equivalent to LD$123,500 Lawo (Marijuana): 8 cans, valued at approximately US$8.80, equivalent to LD$1,672 Tramadol (Tapentadol): 10 boxes, valued at approximately US$1,052.63, equivalent to LD$200,000

The total estimated street value of the seized substances is US$1,711.43, equivalent to approximately LD$325,172.

Suspect Happiness Kan is currently undergoing investigation and will be processed and forwarded to court for prosecution in accordance with the amended Drug Law of Liberia.

The LDEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and illegal drug distribution across the country and urged the public to continue supporting its enforcement efforts.
