LDEA Intercepts Major Drug Shipment in Grand Bassa, Launches Manhunt for Suspect

Monrovia, Liberia — May 13, 2026: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Grand Bassa County Detachment, has intercepted a significant quantity of illegal drugs during a routine security operation at the Owensgroves Checkpoint.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at approximately 7:35 AM, LDEA officers conducted a search of a gray Toyota commercial vehicle bearing license plate A1975 and carrying eight passengers, including the driver.

During the search, officers discovered:

614 grams of Kush 510 grams of cocaine 4 packs of Tapentadol (Tramadol), containing 40 strips

The narcotics were discovered inside a black plastic bag that had been left behind after passengers were instructed to identify and collect their belongings at the LDEA screening area.

Investigators subsequently determined that one passenger, described as wearing black jeans and a red T-shirt, had fled the area before the screening process was completed.

The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of US$40,342, equivalent to approximately LRD 7,664,980.

The LDEA has launched an active manhunt for the fugitive suspect, while the remaining seven occupants of the vehicle are currently undergoing investigation at the LDEA Grand Bassa County Headquarters.

The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying its nationwide crackdown on illegal drugs and warned drug traffickers that no part of Liberia will serve as a safe haven for narcotics-related activities.
