LDEA Re-Arrests Escaped Drug Suspect Following Months of Intelligence-Led Operations Monrovia, Liberia | July 30, 2026 – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) announces the successful re-arrest of a notorious drug suspect, popularly known as “Charles Taylor,” who escaped from an LDEA holding facility in Ganta City, Nimba County, in August 2025.

The suspect was initially apprehended on August 19, 2025, by vigilant residents and members of the Ganta business community, who turned him over to the LDEA for investigation and prosecution on drug-related offenses. However, while in lawful custody, the suspect escaped from the Agency’s holding facility, prompting the LDEA to launch an extensive manhunt and issue a nationwide wanted notice.

Following months of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated law enforcement efforts, LDEA officers successfully tracked down and re-arrested the suspect on July 29, 2026. He is currently in secure LDEA custody and will face the full weight of the law for the original drug-related charges, as well as any additional offenses arising from his escape from lawful detention.

The LDEA commends the dedication and professionalism of its officers whose persistence led to the suspect’s recapture. The Agency also expresses its appreciation to members of the public whose continued cooperation and support remain critical in the fight against illicit drugs and transnational organized crime.
