The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Grand Bassa County Detachment has intercepted a major quantity of illegal drugs during a routine security operation at the Owensgroves checkpoint
On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at about 7:35 AM, following a search conducted on a gray Toyota commercial vehicle bearing plate number A1975 carrying eight passengers, including the driver discovered
614 grams of Kush
510 grams of Cocaine
4 packs of Tapentadol Tramadol containing 40 strips
The narcotics were found inside a black plastic bag left behind after passengers were instructed to identify and collect their belongings at the LDEA screening area. Investigators later discovered that one passenger, described as wearing black jeans and a red T-shirt, had escaped the scene before the screening process was completed.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs is USD 40,342 or approximately LRD 7,664,980.
The LDEA has since launched an active manhunt for the fugitive suspect, while the remaining seven occupants of the vehicle are currently undergoing investigation at the LDEA Grand Bassa County Headquarters.
The Agency remains resolute in its nationwide crackdown on illegal drugs and warns traffickers that no part of Liberia will serve as a safe haven for narcotics activities.
