June 9, 2026
Members of the Press, Deputy Officer-in-Charge Ernest T. Tarpeh For Administration and Investigation, Deputy Officer- In- Charge of Operations ACP Patrick Kormazu, gallant men and women of the LDEA, representatives of Civil Society, and the General Public:
Today, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency announces a breakthrough in Liberia's fight against transnational drug trafficking.
Acting on credible intelligence and through the vigilance of the Joint Security officers assigned to Roberts International Airport, a targeted operation conducted on June 8, 2026, led to the interception of 198 compressed plates of cocaine concealed in six cargo boxes. The shipment, with an estimated street value of US$19,226,000.00 million (approximately LRD 3,652,940,000.00 billion), was destined for export via Brussels Airlines.
This seizure represents one of the most significant narcotics interceptions in recent times and demonstrates the effectiveness of the ongoing reforms, intelligence-driven operations, and strengthened interagency cooperation within Liberia's security sector.
Investigations are actively underway, and persons of interest have been identified. The LDEA remains fully committed to ensuring that every individual connected to this criminal network is identified, investigated, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
This operation sends an unequivocal message: Liberia is not a transit point, marketplace, or haven for drug traffickers. The LDEA will continue to relentlessly pursue criminal networks, secure our borders, and protect our citizens from the devastating effects of illicit drugs.
I extend my sincere appreciation to our officers, Joint Security partners, airport authorities, and all stakeholders whose professionalism, vigilance, and commitment made this successful operation possible.
Together, we remain resolute in safeguarding Liberia and advancing the rule of law.
Thank you.
Signed:
S/A G. Orlando Demey
