LDEA Reports Over US$1 Million in Drug Seizures for September 2024

Monrovia, Liberia – September 30, 2024 –

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has reported a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking, with drug seizures exceeding US$1 million in street value during the month of September 2024.

According to the agency, Montserrado County accounted for 98% of the total drug confiscations, with cocaine making up 80% of the seized substances. Other illicit drugs such as heroin, methamphetamine (Kush), and compressed marijuana were also intercepted in various locations across the country.

Major Arrests and Crackdowns

LDEA officials confirmed that at least 40 individuals were arrested in connection with these drug-related offenses. The suspects include Liberians, Nigerians, Sierra Leoneans, and Guineans, reflecting the transnational nature of drug trafficking in the region.

During coordinated raids and intelligence-led operations, authorities uncovered hidden drug dens, intercepted illicit substances at border entry points, and disrupted distribution networks operating in urban and rural areas.

Key Seizures and Locations

Among the significant operations that led to this record-breaking month of drug seizures:

  • Monrovia (Montserrado County): Large-scale drug busts led to the seizure of over 50 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of heroin from traffickers operating in the city.
  • Grand Cape Mount County: Security forces intercepted drug couriers attempting to smuggle compressed marijuana and Kush across the border.
  • Bong and Lofa Counties: LDEA agents disrupted local distribution rings responsible for supplying drugs to youth and vulnerable communities.
